Full Circle
A consistent theme that plays out, through W. Britt’s work is an exploration of geometric forms and proportion. Many of the earlier collections explore strong angles and bold shapes. The Full Circle Collection reflects on the inherent beauty of a shape that represents unity, inclusivity and timelessness. Circles have no beginning or end; they represent life and the lifecycle. The profound simplicity of the circle contrasted by the deep symbolism of this shape speaks to me.
“We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.”
T.S. Eliot
Creation and growth are a cyclical process. Continually spiraling around the same concept and viewing it from different perspectives, almost as if seeing it for the first time. There is great magic and mystery when you can suspend previous beliefs and truths and shifting perspectives and see something from a new angle. I have been playing around a lot with this concept of limits, boundaries, containers. Where do they provide structure and support and where do they confine us?
“Growth is a spiral process, doubling back on itself, reassessing and regrouping.”
Julia Margaret Cameron
Concretely, the circle can hold all other geometric forms. I experimented with this concept, incorporating different shapes into the circle and exploring the negative space created, culminating in the Full Circle Collection.
